Fire Resistant Hydraulic Oil
BioFlo HFDU is a Factory Mutual (FM) approved fire-resistant hydraulic fluid, formulated from premium natural ester readily biodegradable base oil. HFDU is an excellent anti-wear hydraulic fluid for use in all applications requiring a Factory Mutual approved fire-resistant fluid. In addition to high performance, the product also provides excellent environmental performance due to its low toxicity additives and biobased base oil. HFDU is compatible with most mineral oils and polyolester type hydraulic fluids. For phosphate esters, please contact your BioBlend rep. HFDU is NOT compatible with water containing fluids.
BioFlow HFDU fluids are available in ISO grades, 46 and 68.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is There Non-Flammable Hydraulic Oil?
While no hydraulic oil is completely non-flammable, some hydraulic fluids—like BioFlo HFDU—are less flammable than standard mineral oils. These fire-resistant fluids are ideal for high-risk environments such as steel mills, mining operations, and foundries. BioFlo HFDU and Synthetic HFDU are Factory Mutual Approved and carry the FM approved logo. This means that they have been extensively tested for their lower flammability characteristics and approved for use by the Factory Mutual organization.
Will Hydraulic Oil Burn?
Yes. Hydraulic oil will burn, but the ignition temperature varies depending on the type. Standard mineral-based hydraulic oils typically ignite at lower temperatures, while fire-resistant fluids like HFDU and Synthetic HFDU have higher ignition points, making them safer in high-temperature operations.
Is Hydraulic Fluid Flammable When Welding?
Yes. Hydraulic fluid can ignite if exposed to sparks, flames, or extremely high heat during welding. Always follow safety protocols and consider using a fire-resistant hydraulic fluid in welding environments. Look for the “FM Approved” logo.
Is Synthetic Oil Fire-Resistant?
Synthetic oil is generally more fire-resistant than mineral oil or water-based products. However, for environments with high fire risk, use a specially formulated synthetic fire-resistant fluid like BioFlo Synthetic HFDU, which is designed to perform safely under extreme heat. Look for the “FM Approved” logo!
