BIODEGRADABLE ALUMINUM COMPLEX WIRE ROPE GREASE, NLGI 0, 1, 2
BioGrease WRG is a high performance wire rope grease formulated to protect and potentially extend the life of your wire ropes and cables in operation. This grease typically outperforms traditional petroleum-based grease products in lubricity, viscosity index, solvency, polarity, flash point and dielectric strength. It is a readily biodegradable, wire rope/cable grease that can be depended on in any environment, especially high moisture marine applications.
Created with a revolutionary, patented microwave technology, BioGrease WRG offers longer-term stability than conventional products. The high-quality natural ester base oils offer better performance, and the aluminum complex thickener provides strong protection against water washout in high moisture operating environments. The extra-tacky properties of this grease increase adhesion to wire ropes and cables and provide strong cohesion to help prevent “fling off” in the field. BioGrease WRG has a melting point of over 500° F (260° C) making it a safer and more heat stable product. It contains rust and corrosion inhibitors to better protect equipment against frequent or continuous high moisture exposure.
The microwave blending process reduces energy requirements by over 60% making it one of the most sustainable industrial lubricant products on the market.
- Classified as Environmentally Acceptable Lubricants (EAL) as per the EPA’s 2013 U.S. Vessel General Permit (VGP)
- Use in any industry utilizing wire ropes (with its ability to defend against water washout BioGrease WRG is perfect for use in marine environments) with a need for a high performance grease, especially systems where a release into the environment is possible or where a leak or spill could reach a waste stream.
Frequently Asked Questions
What Is the Best Lubricant for Wire Rope?
The best lubricant for wire rope is typically a dedicated wire rope or cable grease that can penetrate, lubricate, and protect the strands while resisting water washout, corrosion, and fling-off during operation.
BioGrease WRG is a wire rope and cable grease formulated to protect and potentially extend the life of wire ropes and cables in service. It is especially well-suited for high-moisture and marine applications.
It uses high-quality natural ester base oils and an aluminum complex thickener to provide strong water resistance. Its extra-tacky properties help it adhere to wire ropes and cables, providing cohesion to reduce fling-off in the field. It also contains rust and corrosion inhibitors to help protect equipment exposed to frequent or continuous moisture.
What Is Wire Rope Grease?
Wire rope grease is a lubricant designed specifically for wire ropes, cables, and similar heavy-duty applications. It helps reduce friction between strands, protects against wear, and provides a barrier against moisture, rust, and corrosion.
Can WD-40 be Used as a Cable Lubricant?
WD-40 can provide short-term light lubrication and water displacement, but it is not typically the best choice for wire rope or cable lubrication in industrial or high-load applications. Wire ropes need a lubricant that can stay in place, resist moisture, reduce wear, and protect against corrosion over time.
For wire ropes and cables, a dedicated wire rope grease such as BioGrease WRG is a better fit. It is extra tacky to improve adhesion and help prevent fling-off, and its aluminum complex thickener helps defend against water washout in high-moisture operating environments. It also contains rust and corrosion inhibitors for protection in marine and other moisture-heavy applications.
WD-40 may be useful for light-duty, temporary, or household uses, but for industrial wire ropes, marine cables, or equipment where long-term protection is needed, use a proper wire rope grease recommended for the application.
